The purpose of Head Start is to provide a preschool education to 3-5 year-old children from low-income families. This program offers WRAP Around Child Care for children with working parents or parents who are taking college classes. This program is federally funded and offers breakfast and lunch. There are frequent parental conferences.

Emmetsburg Catholic School sponsors the Little Irish Preschool. Some funding is available through PAK Empowerment and state grants. The purpose is to give preschool children a Christian education and to prepare them with a strong foundation. The preschool is licensed by QPPS (Quality Preschool Program Standards.) This program also works cooperatively with the State Wide Voluntary Preschool Program for 4-year-olds at Emmetsburg public schools, using the same curriculum and assessments.
