Welcome Wagon
Emmetsburg provides a Welcome Wagon program to help welcome all newcomers to Emmetsburg. We feel it is important that new citizens to Emmetsburg are made to feel at home. Each newcomer is given a personal visit by our Welcome Wagon representative, Lou Ann Huberty, to meet and greet the family and present them with gifts.
During her visit, the newcomer’s questions and concerns are addressed. In an effort to involve newcomers in our community, a list of churches, organizations, clubs, etc. is provided. In addition, a gift bag is given that provides coupons, gifts and household items. This program is sponsored by participating businesses.
Names of the newcomers are obtained from the Emmetsburg Utilities. Utilities are not always in the name of the newcomer, so names are also obtained through other contacts. If you know of anyone who has moved to town and has not been contacted, please contact Lou Ann Huberty at 852-2334
Message from the Mayor, Pat Degen
Cead Mile Failte’ … A hundred thousand welcomes!
My name is Patrick Degen. I was elected Mayor in November of 2019. I look forward to serving our wonderful community in this position.
Emmetsburg was originally settled by immigrants during the Irish potato famine of the mid-1800s and was incorporated in 1877. We’re proud of our Irish heritage and celebrate it every year with a week-long St Patrick’s celebration which includes a large parade, pageants, reunions and a host of other activities.
Through the efforts of progressive minded citizens, we enjoy a thriving business district and various industries which provide quality goods and jobs for our local residents. These factors, along with affordable housing, quality health care facilities, excellent schools, a local community college and a safe environment make Emmetsburg an ideal place to reside, raise a family, or spend your retirement years.
Please take the time to visit us for a day or a week. I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the friendly atmosphere and find plenty to keep you busy, including beautiful Five Island Lake with the Shores Community Center and golf course nestled on the west shore. Enjoy one of two campgrounds on the lake or one of several parks in the community. Maybe take a chance at the local casino or enjoy one of our local dining establishments.
Come and join us!
