Emmetsburg property owners received a notice in the mail from the Palo Alto County Auditor with upcoming public hearings on the proposed maximum property tax levy rates for the county, city and school district for Fiscal Year 2026. For the upcoming budget, the City expects to reduce the levy rate by 59 cents, subject to the scheduled public hearing and approval by the City Council. This will lower the levy below FY19 and is the second year in a row the levy has gone down.
